Pediatric Acupuncture

Over the last few years, acupuncture has become a much more common treatment for a wide range diagnoses. From orthopedic related injuries to digestive conditions, this traditionally alternative form of care has become more mainstream. Rebound Physical Therapy has three licensed acupuncturists on staff to meet patient’s needs, often working in collaboration with physical therapy. Jessica Belknap, LAc loves to share information on acupuncture in relation to pediatric patients and the positive role it can play in their health and recovery.

Pediatric Acupuncture is generally soft and gentle and involves stroking, tapping, scraping and rolling the skin to produce a natural healing response in the body. Very fine stainless steel, silicone coated needles may be used on specific points if necessary. Kids generally enjoy the interactive medicine and respond very quickly to treatment. Acupuncture works well in conjunction with traditional medical approaches; by enhancing the efficacy of a medication or medical procedure.

For pediatric patients, acupuncture can help with diagnoses outside of orthopedics as well, such as:

– Common colds – sinus, ear infections, chronic low immunity
– Allergic conditions – eczema, sinus allergies, non-acute food allergies
– Digestive complains – constipation, diarrhea, IBS, post op
– Psychological ailments – anxiety, depression, ADHD

When it comes to orthopedic related treatments, it can often be beneficial for torticollis, growing pains, sprains, scoliosis, concussion, Sever’s disease, Osgood Schlatter disease, pre and post op surgical operations and headaches.
