Chronic Pain Management Bend

Rebound Physical Therapy’s Bend chronic pain management program uses a wide array of manual therapy techniques to help treat pain and increase function.  With treatment, the negative effects of chronic pain can be lessened and patients can return to a higher level of activity.

Physical therapy can decrease chronic pain in several ways. PTs can treat inflammation and identify any movement dysfunctions that may be contributing to a patient’s pain. Physical therapy exercises can help strengthen muscles and joints to further decrease pain. PT can also help re-educate one’s central nervous system, which can make the body less sensitive to pain signals.

Understanding Chronic Pain

Chronic or persistent pain is defined as any pain lasting more than 3 months, whereas, acute pain is a normal protective sensation that alerts us to possible injury, after injured tissue heals, pain is expected to stop. Chronic pain is very different and can persist for months or longer.

Chronic or persistent pain does not serve a useful purpose in life. Additionally, prolonged rest and avoiding activities can actually make chronic conditions worse as muscles become debilitated and conditioning declines. When muscles weaken, function declines and a dysfunctional pain cycle can develop.
