Therapist Spotlight: Evan Ameluxen-Coleman, PT, DPT

Evan Ameluxen-Coleman, PT

Evan Ameluxen-Coleman, PT was only 12 years old when he attended his first physical therapy session. After partially tearing his patellar tendon in his knee playing soccer, he spent several months strengthening his knee in physical therapy before returning to the sport.

The experience informed his eventual career path: Ameluxen-Coleman is a physical therapist at Rebound’s Redmond Clinic, located on 4th Street in the same building as Desert Orthopedics.

He draws on his own experience as a former collegiate soccer player when working with patients. “I can sympathize,” he said of patients who are wanting to quickly progress through the rehab process. “Some things take time, it requires patience,” added the Whidbey Island, Washington native.

Part of the rehab process involves helping patients “find a goal that’s meaningful to them,” said Ameluxen-Coleman, who obtained a Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree from the University of Michigan-Flint and a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science from Pacific Lutheran University (Tacoma, Wash.).

To further his clinical skills as a physical therapist, Ameluxen-Coleman is currently working toward a certification in the McKenzie Method of Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy (MDT). The assessment and treatment method looks at a patient’s movement patterns and “is a way to approach any sort of joint pain in the spine and extremities,” he explained.

Evan Ameluxen-Coleman, PT is also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), and sees exercise as a “powerful tool” in the rehab process. He applies strength and conditioning principles when treating patients to help them meet their goals.
