Born and raised on a farm in Iowa, Mike is the youngest of 12 children. At an early age he discovered the outdoors though fishing, hunting, and high school sports. His earliest work experience was a hired hand on dairy and hog farms. Mike went on to complete his undergraduate degree at University of Iowa and Iowa State University.
Mike earned a Masters degree in Physical Therapy at Rockhurst University in Kansas City in 1996 and began working at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Mike has been a clinic manager for Rebound Physical Therapy since 1999. After five years of clinical practice, Mike completed a one-year post-graduate residency in orthopedic physical therapy at the University of Wisconsin, which is achieved by less than one percent of physical therapists. He is currently working on a Doctorate of Physical Therapy through Regis University.
Mike has been a board certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (OCS) since 2002. He has had many opportunities to travel internationally improving his medical skills. He was a medical team provider for a two-week medical mission in impoverished areas in Ecuador in 2002. In 2004 he obtained a certificate in orthopedic manual therapy at Curtin University in Perth, Australia. He also gained experience as a U.S. Snowboard Team physical therapist covering multiple competitions including 2004 and 2006 Junior World Championships in the Czech Republic and South Korea.
Mike enjoys spending time with his wife, Becky, and three children. He continues to enjoy the outdoors through white-water kayaking, snowboarding, mountain biking, fly fishing and golf. Clinical interests include the treatment of spine and sports injuries. He also enjoys performing golf swing motion analysis for correction and prevention of golf related injuries. Mike is eager to take part in future mission trips to provide medical treatment to third world countries and will join in Rebound’s involvement in a project to install wells for clean water in northern Uganda.
